THE STORY BEHIND THE MOVEMENT

I didn't choose this mission.

This mission chose me.

After losing both of my parents — and discovering I carry the highest genetic risk for Alzheimer's — I made a decision that changed everything.

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

2020 changed my life in ways I never could have prepared for.

I was already a healthcare professional — a respiratory therapist with years of clinical experience. I understood the body. I understood disease.

But nothing prepared me for what it actually feels like to watch your father take his last breath.

My dad passed in 2020. And before I had time to grieve, I stepped into a new role I hadn't asked for.

I became my mother's dementia caregiver.

I watched a brilliant, vibrant woman slowly lose her ability to navigate the world she'd always moved through with such confidence and grace. The confusion. The repetition. The moments of clarity that broke my heart even more than the hard ones.

She passed in 2021.

In the span of two years, I lost both of my parents.

And I was left with a question I couldn't shake:

What does this mean for me?

I got tested. And the results stopped me cold.

I carry two copies of the APOE4 gene.

If that doesn't mean anything to you yet — it will. APOE4 is the gene most strongly associated with Alzheimer's disease. Carrying two copies puts me in the highest risk category. Only 2 to 3 percent of the population carries what I carry.

I sat with that information for a moment.

And then I made a decision.

I was not going to spend the rest of my life afraid of a diagnosis that hadn't happened yet. I was not going to be a passenger in my own brain health story.

I was going to do something about it.

So I got to work. And everything changed.

I overhauled my diet. I built a movement practice. I researched sleep, hormones, inflammation, blood sugar, stress — every factor the science said mattered.

I lost 50 pounds.

My energy came back. My thinking sharpened. My lab numbers moved in the right direction.

And the more I learned, the more one truth kept rising to the surface:

Up to 45% of dementia cases are preventable.

That statistic — from the 2024 Lancet Commission — changed the way I saw everything.

We have been handed a story that dementia is inevitable. That it's genetic destiny. That there's nothing we can do but wait and hope.

That story is wrong.

And I made it my mission to replace it with the truth.

The Protect Your Brain Movement was born from that truth.

My mission is to help 1 million people protect their brains from dementia through science-backed lifestyle strategies.

Not fear. Not overwhelm. Not a 47-step protocol you'll abandon by Thursday.

A clear, practical, personalized roadmap — grounded in the best research available — that real people can actually follow in real life.

Because your brain is not a lost cause.

It is a living, adaptable, remarkable organ that responds to how you treat it.

And you have more power over its future than anyone has ever told you.

WHY SUZANNE

The background behind the mission

Former Respiratory Therapist

Years of clinical experience in healthcare — understanding how the body works, how disease progresses, and how lifestyle intersects with biology.

Brain Health Strategist

Trained in the science of cognitive protection, neuroplasticity, and evidence-based lifestyle medicine for brain longevity.

APOE4 Carrier

Carrying two copies of the highest-risk Alzheimer's gene isn't just a personal fact — it makes this work personal in a way no credential can replicate. Suzanne lives this mission every single day.

Caregiver & Daughter

Having served as her mother's dementia caregiver, Suzanne understands the emotional, physical, and practical weight this disease places on families — and why prevention is the greatest gift you can give the people who love you.

A little more about the woman behind the movement

I'm a mom. I have three daughters who I love more than I can put into words.

I have a grandson who calls me ZuZu.

And every single thing I do in this work — every piece of research I read, every strategy I share, every resource I create — is driven by one thing:

I want to be present. Fully, completely, joyfully present for the people I love for as long as I possibly can.

That's not a business goal. That's a life goal.

And I believe with everything I have that it's achievable — for me, and for you.

If you found your way here because you're scared, because you've watched someone you love decline, because you're wondering if your future is already written —

I want you to know something. It's not.

You are not powerless. And you don't have to figure this out alone.
